The New Patriotic Party (NPP) grants amnesty for members who have been suspended or face disciplinary action, in an effort to promote unity and reconciliation within the party.

The decision was delivered via a directive signed by the Acting National Chairman, Danquah Smith Buttey, at an Emergency National Council meeting on Friday, July 25, 2025.

The statement reads.

We hereby provide notification that this order lifts all such suspensions and waives any current procedures against affected members.

The party, however, underlined that members seeking reinstatement must submit a formal application to the national office. Furthermore, reinstated members will be unable to run in any internal party elections until a statutory two-year waiting period has expired.

The directive states that the measure reflects the NPP’s determination to consolidate internal cohesion, strengthen solidarity, and collectively prepare for the political tasks ahead, particularly the 2028 general elections.

The statement also warned party leaders at all levels against arbitrary suspensions, emphasising that disciplinary procedures must rigorously follow the party’s constitution.

It finished by urging CEOs across the country to comply with the new standards.

The National Secretariat demands that you fully comply with this direction.

Why the rapid change?

The NPP’s decision to give amnesty and reconcile with suspended members is largely regarded as a deliberate move that might considerably boost the party’s fortunes in the 2028 elections.

By repairing internal schisms and rebuilding trust among grassroots supporters, the party is positioning itself to solidify its base and reduce the possibility of disintegration ahead of a crucial national election.

This strategy also allows the NPP to tap on the experience, networks, and allegiance of reinstated members who may have been sidelined in the past.

A cohesive and disciplined front, governed by justice and due procedure, is expected to boost the party’s image and widen its appeal to hesitant voters, positioning it as a credible option on the national arena.
