Today, Tuesday, July 9, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will formally present Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the flagbearer, with his running mate.
The venue for the event is Kumasi’s Jubilee Park.
Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh received the unanimity of the National Council of the NPP during an emergency meeting on Thursday, July 4, in Accra.
According to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the alliance is strong and will help the NPP win the general elections in 2024.
President Akufo-Addo told reporters following the announcement that the National Council had approved Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh’s candidacy to be Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s running mate.
“The party has an excellent ticket, and we’re going to win with this ticket on December 7, 2024, that’s the news. The feeling is good, they make a perfect pair, and they will win.”
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for his part, thanked the National Council of the NPP for unanimously endorsing his selection of Dr. Opoku Prempeh as his running mate.
In a Facebook post, he said “Today, I had the honor and privilege to present my choice of running mate (Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh) to the National Council of the New Patriotic Party (NPP: Development in Freedom) for their consideration in line with the party constitution.
I thank members of the National Council for their unanimous and emphatic endorsement of the astute and brilliant Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as my running mate. To God be the glory.”
Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh assured members and supporters of the NPP that he would help Dr. Bawumia to prosecute a formidable 2024 campaign to break the 8-year election cycle.
He says he understands that the task ahead requires collective effort. He further called upon all members of the NPP to join hands to collectively strive to achieve their ‘ambitious goal of transforming Ghana into a prosperous nation’.
“I express my gratitude to the National Council, the rank-and-file of our party, and our esteemed President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, for their unwavering support and faith in me,” he said in a statement immediately after the National Council of the NPP unanimously endorsed him as the running mate on Thursday, July 3.
