The former President, John Dramani Mahama, has made it clear that his next government, which will be led by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), will not immediately begin new projects but will instead focus on completing those that have been abandoned.
According to John Mahama, the country’s economic situation will not allow the government in waiting to start new projects.
Speaking to delegates in the Tano North constituency as part of a campaign tour in the Ahafo Region, Mahama, a flagbearer aspirant of the NDC, stated that once the party is in power, it will ensure that all abandoned infrastructural works are completed.
This statement was made while Mahama was touring the Ahafo Region for the campaign.
When the NDC takes power in 2025, despite the fact that we are currently experiencing an economic crisis, we are still going to have a constrained fiscal space due to the fact that we are experiencing economic difficulties. A new NDC will not be in a hurry to start new projects.
What we will do is take an inventory of all of the projects that have been ongoing but have been abandoned and are still uncompleted. Then, with the limited resources that we have, we will devote it to finishing them.
Former President John Mahama has accused the administration of Nana Akufo-Addo of scuttling a large number of the projects that were initiated during his administration’s time in office.
Since the previous administration left office in January 2017, the former President has expressed his dissatisfaction with the fact that a number of the projects have not been finished.
According to him, schools and road projects among others initiated during his time as President have been left unattended to.
John Dramani Mahama has been using the word “very unfortunate” to describe the current state of affairs regarding development projects.
The former head of state is currently running for the leadership position of his party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), ahead of the general elections in 2024.
However, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which is currently in power in the country, has refuted former President John Dramani Mahama’s claims that the government has given up on several projects that were started by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the country.
