In Ghana’s 2024 elections, the National Democratic Congress is most likely to prevail in both the presidential and parliamentary races.

The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) issued this forecast in its most recent study, which was made public on Friday, April 28, 2023.

In light of this, EIU stated that “the NDC stands a strong chance of winning the 2024 presidential election and securing a legislative majority.”

The unit claimed that the projected voting trends were mostly determined by weak governance and economic hardship.

However, the EIU noted that it anticipates Ghana’s policy to continue focusing on ensuring macroeconomic stability, regardless of who maintains power.

It was also mentioned that the next administration will experience the same economic difficulties as its predecessor.

The following presidential and legislative elections are scheduled for 2024. The current president, Nana Akufo-Addo, has vowed to abide by the time restrictions imposed by the constitution and is not eligible to compete for a third term.

“Alan Kyerematen, the commerce and industry minister, resigned in early January and declared his intention to run for president of the NPP. We anticipate that both the NPP and the NDC will face off in very close races to acquire their respective presidential nominations.

“In March, a former president named John Mahama began his campaign to win the NDC presidential nomination.” A new candidate, such as former finance minister Kwabena Duffuor, who has already expressed his intention to seek the party nomination, might help the NDC revive its prospects.

“Our underlying hypothesis is that the electorate will want change as a result of economic challenges, the effects of debt restructuring, and inadequate governance. Therefore, the NDC has a good chance of becoming president in 2024 and winning a legislative majority.
