The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is set to embark on a nationwide demonstration against the Electoral Commission (EC) today, Tuesday, September 17.
After exhibiting the provisional registration in accordance with the law (C.I. 91 (as amended by C.I. 126)), the EC has insisted that all necessary repairs have been made to the register. It has explained that the reason for the exhibition is to assist with corrections.
Following allegations of numerous irregularities, including the widespread and unlawful transfer of votes, the NDC claims that the EC would not permit a forensic audit of the voter registry in the run-up to the December elections.
On September 9, the national chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, launched the protest, stating that the party was concerned about the way the EC was managing the election process.

He voiced his displeasure with what he perceived as a lack of progress in investigations into the theft of some Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs), which led him to question the degree of openness in the matter.
“For those who have been inquiring about our plans in the event that they refuse to comply, we have made our decision. The National Democratic Congress (NDC) will be holding a large-scale demonstration in each of the 16 regional capitals on the 17th of this month,” he announced.
To keep the demonstration under control and everyone safe, the Ghana Police Service has issued certain instructions.
They asked that protesters adhere to schedules and identified routes, stressing the need of nonviolent protests.
Law enforcement officials issued a stern warning to protesters, threatening anybody who would resort to violence or vandalism during the event with fines and maybe fees.
