NDC accuses NPP of being behind Duffuor injunction application

According to Abraham Amaliba, Director of Legal Affairs for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is behind the injunction action that was filed against the conduct of the presidential and parliamentary primaries of the NDC by an aspirant named Dr. Kwaena Duffuor. Dr. Kwaena Duffuor submitted the application for an injunction.

Mr. Amaliba mentioned in an interview that aired on TV3's ‘Big Issue' on May 12 that, prior to the injunction application, a former Deputy General Secretary of the NPP named Nana Obiri Boahen had mentioned that the NDC was going to be the target of a legal challenge in court.

He went on to say that there has, in fact, been a legal action launched. According to him, something like this just can't be a coincidence.

“We are aware that they are the ones financing these events. Nana Obiri Boahen said that there would be a legal battle, and sure enough, it has happened. Is Nana Obiri Boahen a soothsayer?” Mr. Amaliba stated

He went on to say that all attempts to persuade the camp of Dr. Kwabena Duffuor to sit around the table with officials of the party in order to discuss the problems that were raised against the conduct of the presidential primaries had failed. He said this was further evidence of the failure.

According to what he said, the invites that have been sent their way have gone unanswered. According to Amaliba, “every attempt to get them to sit down with us at the table has been fruitless.”

He continued by asking, “The party is reaching out to you; is it a clear case of frustrating the party?” .On the other hand, Awal Mohammed, a member of the communications team for the NPP, disputed the claim.

According to Awal, there was every indication, based on the way and manner in which the executives of the NDC carried themselves, that court action was going to be taken very soon.

On the same episode, he said, “You didn't even need anyone to tell you that this thing would go to court,” and he was absolutely right.

He went on to explain that the Duffuor camp had requested the album for the elections, but despite the fact that it had been two weeks since the request, it still had not been supplied.

He stated that the blame should be placed on the national executives of the NDC.

On Tuesday, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor initiated legal action against the party in an effort to enjoin the upcoming primaries.

However, in a statement that was released by the General Secretary, Fifi Kwetey, it was stated that “while urging calm among our rank and file, we wish to assure that the party, as of April 20th, 2023, had made available the full Delegates List to all presidential candidates in line with our commitment stated in our guidelines that this primary document would be furnished to all presidential candidates.” This was in reference to the fact that this primary document would be provided to all presidential candidates.

“The party is therefore confident that this temporary challenge will be quickly overcome in order to pave the way for the holding of the primaries on schedule. ”

“It is our expectation that all of us will put the larger interest of our great party ahead of any and all considerations, knowing that the good people of Ghana are eagerly looking up to our party, come December 7, 2024, to rescue this nation from the current national collapse.”

“It is our expectation that all of us will put the larger interest of our great party ahead of any and all considerations.”
