Oluwatimileyin Ajayi, a gospel musician, allegedly confessed to killing his lover after being captured with a severed human head in Orozo, a border hamlet between the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Nasarawa State in Nigeria.
According to multiple media accounts, the tragic incident occurred on Sunday during a Thanksgiving service at a local church, which marked the end of a seven-day fast.
The unnerving finding came around 11 a.m., when a church member named Brother Victor spotted Ajayi acting suspiciously near a nearby river. According to Caleb Umaru, the church’s Bible Study Teacher and General Secretary, Victor noticed Ajayi carrying a black nylon bag and acting strangely during the closing prayers.
Victor notified another church member, Brother Amos, and the two approached Ajayi, who had returned to sit in the rear of the chapel. When asked about the contents of the bag, Ajayi denied any wrongdoing and threw it into the river, escalating suspicion.
Shortly later, two motorcycle riders came to the church. One of them claimed to have brought Ajayi from Loko-Tiye, a nearby town and discovered blood oozing from the bag. Alarmed by this news, the church members and bikers pressured Ajayi for an explanation.
When requested to recover the bag, Ajayi tried to run but was pursued by church members. Umaru described how the chase lasted several minutes and ended in a forested area, where Ajayi was apprehended after a fight.
“It took a lot of effort for the four men to catch him,” Umaru told me. “The chase ended in a bushy area, which is why the video of his arrest appears to have been recorded in a farm-like setting.”
The bag was discovered and unzipped, revealing its terrible contents: a severed human head, ultimately identified as Ajayi’s fiancée.
A Shocking Confession
Ajayi, who was injured during his attempted escape, admitted to killing his girlfriend. Identified as Salome Adaidu, following an altercation over her phone. According to Umaru, Ajayi claimed to have attacked him with a knife, hurting his hand. In reaction, he seized the knife and stabbed her neck, killing her.
“He admitted that he stabbed her in the neck during the fight,” Umaru said.
In a video that has now gone viral, a police officer interrogates Ajayi, asking why he is holding the severed head. Ajayi claimed that “a woman” had told him to deliver the head to her, but he did not elaborate on the woman or her role in the crime.
Police Take Action.
Local police officers arrived at the site shortly after Ajayi was apprehended. He was detained with the severed head and transferred in a police van.
“The police carried him because he was lying down, almost half-dead from his injuries,” Umaru told me.
The event has shocked the Orozo neighborhood and caused significant outrage. Authorities are investigating the situation, particularly Ajayi’s assertion about the unnamed woman who reportedly commanded him to carry the severed head.
