Mohamed Diomande rejects Ghana call-up, here are his reasons

Following his request for more time to consider his future on an international level, Mohamed Diomande will not play for Ghana in its friendly matches against Nigeria and Uganda.

Ivory Coast-born Mohamed Diomande played for Ghana’s Right to Dream Academy before traveling to Europe to play for FC Nordsjaelland.

Mohamed Diomande rejects Ghana call-up

Mohamed Diomande was called for both Ivory Coast’s U23 team and Otto Addo’s side during the March international window.

When it came time to make a decision, the 22-year-old told the Black Stars technical staff that he needed more time to consider his options for playing abroad.

The Rangers player acknowledged Ghana’s call-up in an Instagram statement, and he confirmed he had been in contact with Otto Addo.

“However, a lot has been said, but I am in direct contact with the manager concerned by my decision, and it is he who holds the real information about my choice.”

Sources close to the Black Stars have confirmed that Diomande was expected to arrive in camp on Thursday in Marrakech ahead of the Nigeria game on Friday. It is also believed the Ivorian federation has reached out to the player to convince him, as the player is yet to be capped at the national team level.

Ghana play Nigeria on March 22 before facing Uganda four days later, with both matches taking place in Morocco.
