A 31-year-old man narrowly escaped lynching in Bibiani, Western North Region, after reportedly stealing eight sheep.
Kwasi Asamoah, a teaching intern at Juaboso D/A Primary School, is been accused of taking the animals from Oforikrom, a suburb of Bibiani.
Some livestock producers told Adom News that sheep had been missing from the village, but attempts to apprehend the thief had failed.
They filed a complaint with butchers at the Bibiani abattoir to assist in locating the perpetrators.
Their efforts paid off when they went to the abattoir and found four of their lost sheep. When asked, the butchers disclosed that Asamoah had sold the animals to them and promised to bring more.
The next morning, Asamoah returned with four more sheep, for a total of eight. When confronted, the herders identified all the animals as their own.
The defendant was severely beaten before being handed over to Bibiani police, despite his assertions that he owned three of the sheep and was transporting them to Kumasi for sale.
One of the butchers, Iddrisu Abdulai, revealed that Asamoah sold the animals for GH¢3,000.
