Dr. Adam Atiku, the chief executive officer of the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH), was sacked by President John Dramani Mahama in response to allegations of incompetence that resulted in the recent death of a patient at the hospital’s Accident and Emergency Ward.
The decision was made in the midst of mounting worries about the facility’s declining healthcare services, where a number of critical medical devices are allegedly broken.
As part of a larger attempt to evaluate the difficulties in delivering healthcare in the Northern Region, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Minister for Health, responded to the problem by making an unexpected visit to the hospital on Tuesday, April 22.
Even though suppliers are getting paid, the Minister voiced grave concerns during the visit regarding the quantity of medical equipment that is sitting dormant.
He also emphasised how hospital operations are affected by Tamale’s prolonged water crisis, characterising it as a regional problem that demands immediate presidential action.
Speaking about plans to address the hospital’s equipment problems, Mr. Akandoh stated that Tamale Teaching Hospital management’s priorities will guide any Ministry action.
He assured people of better healthcare delivery and asked them to keep using the hospital’s services.
“I can’t do it alone, so I have to involve them, and we are thinking through it together. When we are done with them, we will all think it through. “Please maintain your composure and allow us to continue using the facility,” he said.
