Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a prominent New Patriotic Party (NPP) politician, believes President John Dramani Mahama is the most prepared leader in Ghana’s political history, noting his wide political background and experience in both government and opposition.
Speaking on Asaase Radio on Monday, Otchere-Darko stated, “I believe the present president is the most prepared president we’ve had. From assemblyman to vice president, and now president, you’ve been in opposition, seen who your true friends are, learnt from your mistakes, spotted missed chances, and now you’ve been given another chance.”
However, Otchere-Darko warned that Ghana’s youth had larger expectations than ever before, particularly in terms of job possibilities and economic prospects.
“Youth are unforgiving. They want jobs. They voted for you because they believe your 24-hour economy policy and other pledges will meet their expectations. Satisfying them in this environment of social media and new media, when every government move is overexposed and exaggerated, is a massive problem,” he stated.
He advised the Mahama administration to focus on creating an atmosphere conducive to young people’s success rather than directly delivering jobs.
“Your role is to create an environment that allows people to follow their dreams rather than immediately fulfilling them. If the government creates room and opportunities, the youth must also work hard to achieve their ambitions,” Otchere-Darko suggested.
