Macaulay Culkin Wipes Away Tears as He Reunites with Home Alone Mom Catherine O’Hara at Walk of Fame Ceremony

Thirty years after Home Alone, Macaulay Culkin reconnected with his on-screen mother, Catherine O’Hara.

O’Hara, 69, arrived to give a speech at the ceremony honoring Culkin, 43, who received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Friday. In her address, O’Hara reflected on how much the actor has changed in the 33 years since 1990’s Home Alone.

Home Alone was, is, and always will be a beloved global sensation. The reason families all over the world can’t let a year go by without watching and loving Home Alone together is because of Macaulay Culkin.”

In addition to Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern, and John Heard, Chris Columbus also wrote and directed Home Alone.

Culkin had a “perfect performance” as Kevin McCallister, according to O’Hara, who also said, “I know you worked really hard; I know you did, but you made acting look like the most natural thing in the world to do.”

Alongside Culkin, O’Hara produced Home Alone 2: Lost in New York in 1992. She claimed that the actor infuses every film he works on with his “sweet and twisted, yet totally relatable” sense of humor. “It’s a sign of intelligence in a child and a key to survival at any age,” she remarked about a sense of humor.

I’m happy for Macaulay. Your star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is well deserved. And thank you for letting me join in on this joyous occasion—your pretend mother, who left you home alone twice. I’m very happy for you,” she said.

After exchanging hugs, Culkin wiped away tears by the podium.

Speaking at the ceremony, Culkin became upset and thanked O’Hara and Natasha Lyonne, who costarred with him in Party Monster (2003), for honoring him in their speeches.

“I appreciate all of your nice remarks, tales, and other things. You know, you made their papa, the father of my kids, appear good. The fact that their father recognizes that he wasn’t always their father—that he was a child once, too—is what matters most to me. He laughed as he spoke.

“To wrap things up, and in the spirit of the holiday season, I just wanna say Merry Christmas, ya filthy animals,” he said, referencing a scene from his Home Alone 2 film.
