THROWBACK: Bawumia not to blame for Cedi depreciation – Kennedy Agyapong in 2021

In the wake of recent criticism levelled by Kennedy Agyapong against Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for the devaluation of the Cedi in 2021, it has come to light that the same Kennedy Agyapong gave a radio interview in 2022 in which he fiercely argued that Dr. Bawumia could not be held responsible for the devaluation of the Cedi.

The Member of Parliament for Assin North, who is running for the position of New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer in 2024, shocked many party faithful over the weekend when he launched a scathing attack on the decision of the Akufo-Addo-led government to go to the IMF.

He also launched another veiled attack on Dr. Bawumia, blaming him for the depreciation of the Cedi over the course of the previous year.

THROWBACK: Bawumia not to blame for Cedi depreciation – Kennedy Agyapong in 2021

Surprisingly, an interview with Kennedy Agyapong from the previous year has surfaced, in which he emphasizes that the devaluation of the city and high inflation are both outcomes of the global crisis, which he indicates has damaged the economies of many countries, including the economy of the United States.

When your country’s fundamentals are weak, the currency rate will expose you, the Vice President of the United States once said. In the interview for 2021, Kennedy Agyepong stated, “Yes, it is true, but when the economic indicators globally are negative, Ghana’s cannot be positive.”

“Do you understand? When global economic indicators are negative, it is impossible for the indicators of a single country to be positive. In light of this, the Vice President’s hypothetical situation is as follows: “Look, in an era where there is a pandemic, it is everybody’s burden,” he added.

After that, Kennedy Agyapong provided additional support for his defense of the Vice President by describing how prices had increased in the United States while at the same time the value of the US Dollar had decreased.

“In 2019, I was able to purchase the same thing for $12, but it is now being sold for $21.” “It has never happened before, and that is not the rate at which things happen in America. However, it has occurred because we are not in normal times,” Kennedy Agyapong pointed out. “It has happened because we are not in normal times.”

After his recent outbursts, Kennedy Agyapong has received a great deal of backlash from members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who believe that he has been unjustifiably attacking the government and, to some extent, the party that he is vying to become the leader of.

Many people have also pointed out how he has made Dr. Bawumia the focus of his campaign and how he has repeatedly launched assaults on the Vice President. This shift in his rhetoric has been seen as a surprising change from how he used to praise Dr. Bawumia, as the records reveal.

It is widely believed that Dr. Bawumia will emerge victorious in the race to become the next flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which currently has 10 candidates vying for the position.

On Saturday, November 4, the delegates conference will narrow the field of candidates down to five, and then the NPP’s main congress will vote on who will take the helm of the party. Kennedy Agyapong is one of the candidates vying for the position.
