The Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has announced that it will be meeting with President Akuffo Addo to discuss the demand that Finance Minister Hon. Ken Ofori Atta be removed from his position.

In an interview, Mr. Kwadwo Mpiani, a member of the Council of Elders and a former Chief of Staff in the administration of John Agyekum Kufuor, noted that the council met and a decision was made for the members to meet with the President to discuss the way forward concerning the internal cry for the removal of the finance minister. Mpiani was speaking as a member of the Council of Elders and a former Chief of Staff in that administration.

He went on to say that until the council has conferred with the president, it will be unable to take a position on the issue.

After some time had passed, some 98 parliamentarians affiliated with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have resumed their call for Mr. Ofori-Atta to resign or be fired from his position. Their decision came after a meeting that took place on November 15, 2022. They were all in agreement that Mr. Ofori-Ata ought to step down from his position in the administration immediately.

Andy Appiah-Kubi, a member of parliament for Asante-Akim North and the spokesperson for the 98-member group, stated that “We’ve gone back to sacking him now” and, therefore, should the budget be presented under the stamp of the Finance Minister, we will not participate because, as far as we are concerned, we are never going to do business with him. Andy Appiah-Kubi said.

“And if we are not going to do business with him, then he does not participate in any process from the Presidency all the way down to the House.” We will not take part in the deliberations either. We’re not saying we won’t do the President’s business; what we are saying is that we won’t conduct the President’s business via Ofori-Atta. He added.

Inusah Fuseini, who formerly served as a member of parliament for Tamale Central, has issued a call for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to heed the repeated demands of Ghanaians and fire Ken Ofori-Atta from his position as Minister of Finance.

According to Mr. Fuseini, it is startling that the President has decided to stand by the struggling Finance Minister despite the fact that the majority of Ghanaians do not believe in his ability to do his job.

Mr. Fuseini says that the President has shown the worst kind of lack of accountability by ignoring the calls of Ghanaians and lawmakers from his own party to get rid of the Finance Minister.

“The inability of the president to act on the request by 234 Members of Parliament asking for the firing of Ofori-Atta is arguably the height of impunity,” said one commentator. “.

I believe it is high time that the President paid attention. Article One of the Constitution makes it clear that the government’s powers must be used for the good of the people, not for the good of the President’s family.
Inusah Fuseini added.
