The name Kai Sotto has recently been generating a lot of buzz in the world of basketball.

Kai Sotto , who was born on May 11, 2002, in Las Pias, Philippines, is a towering centre who measures 7 feet, 2 inches in height and has been referred to as the “future of Philippine basketball.”

In spite of his youth, he has already achieved a great deal of success in his basketball career, and the path he has taken to become a basketball superstar on an international level is nothing short of motivational.

Kai Sotto Early Years and the Beginnings of His Basketball Career

Kai Sotto comes from a long line of basketball players on both sides of his family. His father, Ervin Sotto, was a member of the Tanduay Rhum Masters of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) during his playing career.

Pamela, his mother, played on the varsity team when she was in high school. Ervin Jr., his sibling, also plays basketball at a professional level.

When Kai was barely six years old, he began his journey in the sport of basketball. He would stay up late to watch his father play and work out with him at home.

When Kai was eight years old, he began competing in basketball leagues in the local area. Because of his height and the natural talent he possessed, coaches and scouts began to take notice of him almost immediately after they saw him play.

Rise to Prominence

Sotto was already generating news in Philippine basketball at the age of 16 in 2018, when he was just starting out. In the juniors’ level of the UAAP (University Athletic Association of the Philippines), which he competed in for Ateneo High School, he was the player that helped his team win the championship.

In addition to that, he was named the Best Centre of the Season and won the award for Most Valuable Player of the Finals.

Following his outstanding play in the UAAP, Sotto drew the attention of scouts from several countries around the world.

In 2019, he accepted a contract with The Skill Factory, a basketball academy located in Atlanta, Georgia. His goals were to further develop his abilities and acquire exposure to the basketball scene in the United States.

In the same year, Sotto was selected to play for Asia Pacific on the All-Star squad for the Junior NBA Global Championship. He led his squad all the way to the title game, but they were defeated by the American team there.

However, as a result of his play, Sotto was selected for the tournament’s All-Star team, and his name was brought to the attention of scouts from across the world as well as NBA teams.

Kai Sotto Plans and Goals for the Future

The future of Kai Sotto’s basketball career appears to be bright. In 2021, he acquired a contract to play basketball with the Adelaide 36ers, a team from Australia that competes in the National Basketball League (NBL), so that he could gain additional playing experience before attempting to make it to the NBA.

Sotto is also interested in music, and he has published a single under the title “Feelin’ Alive.” In addition to basketball, Sotto’s main interest is the sport of basketball.

In addition to this, he established the basketball and music school known as the Kaiju Academy in the Philippines with the intention of serving as a role model and providing motivation to younger musicians and athletes.
