John Mahama promises affordable Hajj pilgrimage

Former President John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, has assured the Muslim community that if he is reelected, the cost of the Hajj journey will be reduced.

This followed his observation that the present expense of the Hajj journey is unquestionably a substantial financial strain.

John Mahama pointed out that many ordinary Muslims found it difficult to start this spiritual journey because of the expensive cost.

John Mahama said that Hajj fares were significantly more reasonable at GH¢11,900.00 during his presidency.

“Seeing the cost rise to GH¢75,000.00 is disheartening, leaving many with no option but to seek alternative routes for their pilgrimage,” Mr. Mahama wrote on Facebook on Sunday, June 16 to mark the Eid ul-Adha occasion.

“I fully understand the significance of the Hajj pilgrimage and the importance of making it accessible to all.

Earlier on Sunday, he joined the Ahlussuna Wal-Jamah group for their Eid prayers.

“I stated that when given the opportunity to lead our country once again, I will not only work tirelessly but also strategically to make the Hajj pilgrimage more affordable for the Ghanaian Muslim community, ensuring that no one is left behind.

“Let us continue to celebrate Eid and pray for peace and prosperity for our nation. Eid Mubarak to all!”
