Yakubu David, a 16-year-old Junior High School (JHS) student, died after slipping into a galamsey pit in Pramkuma, near Akyem Takyiman, Kwaebibirem Municipality in the Eastern Region.
Yakubu died tragically while being hunted by security forces armed with pistols and cutlasses.
According to reports, Yakubu and his friends went to the galamsey location trying to make money.
One of Yakubu’s pals, James Abanga, told Adom News that the security guys accused him of stealing gold and chased him to reclaim it.
During the pursuit, Yakubu was allegedly battered and shoved into the hole, resulting in his death.
Yakubu Ayuba, the deceased’s father, stated that students in the region frequently participate in galamsey activities to earn pocket money.
Following his son’s death, he is calling for those responsible to be held accountable and brought to justice.
