Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Member of Parliament for Abetifi and former Minister of Food and Agriculture, has urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to unite behind a common goal as it prepares for the 2028 general elections.

Bryan Acheampong addressed party officials during the NPP Constituency Chairmen Caucus Conference on Saturday, June 21, in Kumasi, with a clear and unabashed statement about his political objectives.

I am not here to test the waters. “I’m here for power,” he stated, to thunderous cheers from the packed audience.

His words set the tone for what he termed as a focused and determined effort to bring the NPP back to power.

Dr. Acheampong described his path through the party, from grassroots mobilisation to serving as a Member of Parliament and Cabinet Minister. He underlined that his years of hard work and expertise had equipped him to lead the party into a new chapter.

One chairman summed up the mood of the event, saying:

“This is not only about Bryan. It’s about gaining strength together as a group.”

While the official flagbearer race is months away, Saturday’s ceremony marked Dr. Acheampong’s unambiguous and confident entrée into the leadership discourse, with unity and triumph in 2028 as his key message.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has set January 31, 2026 as the date for selecting its flagbearer ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Former Education Minister and current MP for Bosomtwe, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, have also expressed their intentions to contest the NPP flagbearer’s position.
