Adwoa Safo, a former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya, has stated that she has no interest in running the parliamentary seat again, citing recent hardships she had while in government.
Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse on Thursday, March 20, Adwoa Safo claimed that she would not contemplate running for the seat again unless convinced by her father.
Reflecting on her tenure as MP for the constituency, she confessed that the problems she faced had left her disillusioned with the prospect of returning to the job.
“Considering what I’ve been through and how I’ve been treated in the constituency despite my devotions, sacrifices, and hard work, I don’t think so and will not. It will take my father to persuade me otherwise; I have served in the seat for 12 years and have left a positive legacy; I will not run against Dome Kwabenya,” she stated.
The NPP, represented by Mike Oquaye Jr., lost its traditional seat to the NDC in the 2024 election.
While she ruled out running again for Dome Kwabenya, the former MP did not hesitate to share her future plans.
She expressed a desire to advance in political leadership, indicating that she aspires to be Ghana’s first female president or Speaker of Parliament.
“I am moving forward, I am looking at other bigger things,” she went on.
“Like the presidency” ? The host, Elton John Brobbey, asked. She replied, “Yes, one day, not now; I am considering speakership, yes. “I’m looking at higher challenges and opportunities,” she stressed.
