Ghanaian boxer-turned-musician Bukom Banku has disclosed that he did not participate in this year’s Ramadan fast, not due to health concerns but simply because he could not go without food.

Speaking in an interview on Max TV, the outspoken entertainer admitted that fasting was too difficult for him, so he chose an alternative way to observe the holy month.

“This year’s fasting went well, and those who observed it did a great job. I am a Muslim, but I have told Ghanaians that I cannot fast. So, I gave money to others to fast on my behalf,” he explained.

Ramadan, a sacred period in Islam, is observed through fasting from dawn to sunset, prayer, and reflection. While exemptions exist for those with valid reasons, Bukom Banku clarified that his decision was purely personal—he simply could not tolerate hunger.

“When I wake up without eating, I don’t feel good. It causes me stomach problems. I know myself better than anyone else,” he said.

According to him, his approach—supporting others financially to fast and pray on his behalf—is acceptable within Islamic teachings, and his community has come to understand his stance over the years.

Despite not fasting, he expressed his full support for those who did and remained committed to upholding the values of Ramadan in his way.

Bukom Banku, born Braimah Kamoko, is a Ghanaian professional boxer and entertainer known for his flamboyant personality, humorous nature, and dominance in the local boxing scene.
