High Court orders EC to recollate Ablekuma North Constituency results

The High Court orders the Electoral Commission to recollate results for the Ablekuma North and Nsawam-Adoagyiri constituencies, citing irregularities.

Despite previous statements, the High Court has asked the Electoral Commission (EC) to recollate and declare the results of the Ablekuma North and Nsawam-Adoagyiri constituencies.

Dissatisfied parliamentary candidates from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) filed a writ requiring the EC to hold new elections in these constituencies. They highlighted irregularities in the results compilation and subsequent victory announcement.

In his decision on Friday, December 20, Presiding Judge Joseph Adu Owusu Agyeman directed the EC to proceed with the recollection of the results in the Ablekuma North constituency. This decision was taken over objections from NDC legal representatives, led by Godwin Edudzi Tamaklo.

Both counsel contended that the constituency results had already been declared, but the court concluded that flaws in the process justified the re-collation.

Six New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidates in the 2024 elections have filed an action for judicial review in the form of a Mandamus, requesting that the High Court order the Electoral Commission (EC) to collect and declare parliamentary results in their seats.

Charles Forson (Tema Central), Frank Annoh-Dompreh (Nsawam-Adoagyiri), Patrick Yaw Boamah (Okaikwei Central), Martin Kweku Adjei-Mensah Korsah (Techiman South), Nana Akua Owusu Afriye (Ablekuma North), and Eric Nana Agyemang Prempeh (Ahafo Ano North) will be pleased with the court’s decision.

Furthermore, the court directed the Inspector General of Police to maintain adequate security at collation locations so that the EC can carry out its constitutional obligations without any disturbances.
