Hajj Village project: Not a pesewa of taxpayer’s money involved – Kwakye Ofosu clarifies

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of State for Government Communication, has gone to social media to address recent misconceptions about the funding and purpose of the Hajj Village initiative.

Mr Kwakye Ofosu clarified on his official Facebook page that the Hajj Village is not sponsored by taxpayers, as some had thought.

According to the post, the Hajj Village is basically an airport terminal structure meant to assist the check-in and processing of pilgrims departing for the annual Hajj pilgrimage.

The Ghana Airport Company (GACL) owns and develops the facility, with no taxpayer monies committed to it.

Mr Kwakye Ofosu stressed that “not a pesewa of taxpayer’s money is involved,” claiming that the initiative is being funded by the Ghana Airport Company and is aimed at improving the pilgrimage experience for Ghanaian Muslims travelling to Mecca.

On Sunday, March 2, President John Dramani Mahama officially launched the project’s construction, a major initiative aimed at improving facilities for Ghanaian pilgrims travelling to Mecca for the annual Islamic pilgrimage.
