A sorrowful occurrence occurred last Friday at Akyem Anamase near Oda in the Eastern Region when a groom, Chief Inspector Godwin Beniba, unexpectedly died during his wedding ceremony.
Chief Inspector Beniba, Station Officer at Anamase Police Station, fell shortly after arriving at the Anamase Hotel, the event’s destination.
The groom and his best men had been waiting for his wife, Florence Debrah, who was in one of the event centre’s rooms, to arrive.
Eyewitnesses reported that the groom complained of dizziness upon entering the location.
He fell to the floor before anyone could answer.
Some of the invited guests hurried him to the Anamase Clinic, but medical experts there proclaimed him dead when they arrived.
The dreadful news devastated the hundreds of attendees, including police officers who had traveled from Accra, Koforidua, Oda, Akyem Achiase, Akyem Swedru, and other parts of Ghana to witness the union. Many were struck with grief and couldn’t stop crying.
Large quantities of food and drinks prepared for the occasion went unused as astonished guests exited the venue in tears.
The deceased’s relatives, who had traveled from the Northern region, arranged for the body to be taken to the Oda Government Hospital morgue for autopsy and preservation.
According to Graphic.com.gh, the village was shrouded in melancholy, with locals mourning the unfortunate loss and unable to participate in the typical joyful activities of the Christmas season.
