Sammy Gyamfi, Acting Managing Director of Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC), has declared that the government will not prohibit small-scale mining in the country but will instead assist those who have legal papers to mine successfully and responsibly.

On Wednesday, March 26, 2025, he made the announcement in Bolgatanga during an engagement with mining sector stakeholders from the Upper East and North East Regions.

The Acting Managing Director of Precious Minerals Marketing Company Ltd (PMMC) stated that the government will empower small-scale miners with legal documentation to mine responsibly by providing concessions, adequate training with skill resourcing, and logistics for their activities.

He did, however, add that miners will be expected to sell their gold goods to the government via the Goldbod program, which is set to launch soon.

“We will not restrict small-scale mining since it is legal and responsible. We even aim to bring the permits to your doorstep at the district level by providing you with delimited mining areas where you may generate a lot of gold while remaining responsible.

“When you’re finished mining, don’t give it to an Indian, a Chinese, or even a Ghanaian who isn’t authorised to buy gold. Give it to a Ghanaian who has been licensed by the Ghana Gold Board. Because such a licensed person has been granted money to buy all of the gold for the government, he intends to sell it and bring the revenues into the country,” he said.
