The official qualifying matches for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 will commence across the continent starting on Wednesday, September 4. Ghana’s journey to Morocco, on the other hand, begins the following day.
Ghana will play host to Angola in the first game of the qualifiers, which will take place at the Baba Yara Stadium.
Under Otto Addo, who is returning to the team for a second spell after his first experience with the team in 2022, the Black Stars are continuing to rebuild their organization. For the past four matches, the former Borussia Dortmund player has been in control of the organization.
A 2-1 loss to Nigeria in March was the only time Ghana has suffered a loss during that stretch. Ghana has won two of the matches and drawn the other one. They were victories against Mali and Central African Republic, which were both key qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
All of the focus, however, has shifted to the African Cup of Nations qualifiers, and the team is hoping to get off to a strong start, with the first goal being to defeat Angola.
Head to Head
As a result of their encounter in the qualifiers for the most recent edition of the African Cup of Nations, which was contested in Cote d’Ivoire, these two teams will be playing each other for the third time in the past two years.
The first matchup between Ghana and Angola took place at the Baba Yara Stadium. Antoine Semenyo scored the game’s lone goal against the Palancas Negras. Ghana then went on to hold Angola to a 1-1 draw while they were away from home.
Ghana defeated Angola by a score of 1-0 in the 2010 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) before the two teams met in the qualifications.
Reports from the Team
Twenty-two players had arrived at the Black Stars camp as of Tuesday, and they had experienced their first training session at the Baba Yara Stadium. Elisha Owusu and Jordan Ayew were the only two players who abstained from participating in the session, which included all 22 players.
Additionally, it was anticipated that the two players would join the team later and participate in the final session on Wednesday before the match against Angola.
By what was previously reported, Alexander Djiku withdrew from the squad owing to an injury that he sustained while playing for Fenerbahce. Jonas Adjei Adjetey, a center-back for Basel, arrived to take his place. A late call-up to the team was also administered to Forson Amankwah.
Tuesday marked the arrival of the Palancas Negras’ delegation in Kumasi, where they practiced throughout the city while their preparations for the game were drawing to a close.
Possible starting lineup
Addo is anticipated to make adjustments to his backline as a result of the absence of Gideon Mensah and Djiku. Additionally, Salis Abdul Samed’s absence will force him to make adjustments to his midfield.
As far as we are concerned, the Black Stars might play Angola in the following formation:
Issahaku, Kudus, Thomas-Asante, and Semenyo; Ati-Zigi; Lamptey, Mumim, Salisu, and Opoku; Partey, Ashimeru; and Semenyo.
16:00 GMT is the time that the game will begin at the Baba Yara Stadium.
