Black Stars drops in September FIFA World Rankings

Due to Ghana’s recent poor performance during the international break in September, the country has experienced a major dip in the most recent FIFA World Rankings.

In the first two of the qualifying matches for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the Black Stars faced off against Angola and Niger respectively.

The four-time African champions were defeated by the Palancras Negras by a score of 1-0 at the Baba Yara Stadium. On the other hand, they were held to a 1-1 draw by Niger in Berkane.

As a result of these results, Ghana is currently in third place in Group F.

Following the publication of the rankings, Ghana, which had previously held the 64th position on the worldwide rankings, has now fallen to the 70th spot.

Countries such as Georgia, Burkina Faso, United Arab Emirates, Albania, and Cape Verde have risen to the top of the global rankings, surpassing Ghana. Burkina Faso is also among the countries that have moved up.

According to the continental rating, the Black Stars have likewise fallen two places since their previous position.

Burkina Faso and Cape Verde are climbing higher than them, and they are currently occupying the fourteenth slot on the list.

Morocco has risen to the top of the CAF standings, while Senegal has fallen through the ranks to take the second spot. With Tunisia, Egypt, and Cote d’Ivoire rounding out the top five countries.

In the meantime, the Black Stars will get back together in October in order to play Sudan in the qualifiers on matchday three and matchday four.
