The Black Stars traveled to Qatar in grand fashion for the 2022 World Cup, with each player donning a magnificently embroidered traditional smock.
Although the other teams that have come to Qatar so far have dressed in a simple or traditional manner, the four-time winners from the West African nation saw this as a chance to showcase their country’s extensive cultural heritage. All 26 players were outfitted with colorful Ghanaian smocks.
The smock is a traditional piece of clothing that used to only be worn by the monarchs of Ghana’s three northernmost districts. Now, people all over the country and even in southern Burkina Faso wear it.
After beating Switzerland 2-0 in a friendly game before the World Cup on Thursday in Abu Dhabi, the Black Stars went to Qatar with a positive and confident mindset.
On November 24, Ghana will kick off their World Cup campaign in Group H against Portugal. Four days later, on November 30, Ghana will take on South Korea. The last match of the group stage will take place on December 2 against Uruguay.
