A fire broke out in Kumasi’s major business district of Adum, destroying two-story buildings that housed multiple shops.
The fire at the popular Blue Light venue, near Hello FM, began at 6 a.m. and spread quickly as firefighters attempted to contain it.
As the fire raged, panicked traders were forced to break into their shops to dispose of their merchandise.
The majority of the shops sell mobile phones, accessories, jewellery, and apparel.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire began when a nearby electricity pole flickered, resulting in a spark on the top floor of one of the buildings.
Nana Ama Ataffuah Quainoo, Hello FM’s programmes director, said staff were evacuated swiftly as the fire advanced.
She claims that the fire service personnel took their time arriving.
Several fire tenders later arrived at the area but encountered difficulties combating the fire.
