Dr. Kwabena Duffuor Joins NDC Flagbearer Race

Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, who served as the nation’s Minister of Finance previously, has announced that he intends to run for the position of Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“Today, I officially announce my intention to contest for the flagbearership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) anytime the party opens nominations. I will offer myself once again to serve the land of my birth with humility and sacrifice when given the chance to do so,” he said at a press conference in Accra on Thursday, November 3, 2022.

The man who had previously served as Governor of the Bank of Ghana and as the owner of the now-defunct uniBank stated that he was prepared to lead the NDC to the elections in 2024 and that he would be running for the party’s presidency.

There is reason to believe that former President John Dramani Mahama will make a bid for the leadership of the NDC once more in the run-up to Election 2024, although he has not yet publicly stated his desire to do so.

Mr. Mahama said that he will decide whether or not to run for reelection when the party opens nominations for new candidates the last time he was asked about his desire to run for reelection during an appearance on VOA television.

Already, Kojo Bonsu, who served as mayor of Kumasi in the past, has announced his intention to run for office and has put up billboards across the city to promote his candidacy for the position of flagbearer of the NDC.

Dr. Duffuor was Ghana’s Minister of Finance from 2009 until 2013, first under the late President John Evans Atta Mills and then under President John Mahama. He served under both men.
