The Bibiani Ahwiaso Bekwai, in conjunction with Sefwi Wiawso Municipality, trains district disaster response teams for emergencies(unforeseen circumstances).
The two-day training which took place in Bibiani was championed by the Ghana Red Cross Society and in an exclusive interview with AkuapemHann, the municipal manager of the Red Cross Society in Bibiani, Ahwiaso Bekwai, and Senior Medic Peter Okoe Ahunarh indicated that the program was initiated by the Ghana Red Cross Society with the aim of training district disaster response teams (volunteers) for future disaster management, citing the incident of Apiate in the Western Region as a perfect example.
According to Mr. Okoe Ahunarh, the trainees were picked each from various communities in Bibiani and Wiawso, respectively. He also stated why these trainees include personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service, National Road Safety Authority, National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), National Ambulance Service, Ghana Police Service, and the Ghana Red Cross Society, with specific roles for each.
The Red Cross Society forms part of the medical team, but they are more into providing relief materials to affected communities in terms of disaster occurrences, he added.
