The Ghana Football Association has called off the Monday, September 5, 2022, Champion of Champions match between league champions Asante Kotoko and FA Cup winners Hearts of Oak.
The GFA claims that the choice was taken since Kotoko is competing in the CAF Champions League while Hearts of Oak’s main players are competing in the qualifiers for the African Nations Championship.
Thanks to the match’s cancellation, Kotoko SC will have plenty of time to prepare for the Champions League, and the Black Galaxies will also be able to compete in the CHAN tournament.
On Friday, September 9, Kotoko will make their competitive debut against Burkinabe side Rail Club du Kadiogo in the opening leg of the preliminary round match.
After winning the first leg 2-0 in Cape Coast over the weekend, the Black Galaxies will meet Nigeria in Abuja on September 3 in the second match in hopes of qualifying for Algeria.
