Catherine Jemima Hughes was born in Brigham, Iowa, and Wisconsin, in the United States, on October 29, 1904. At the time of her birth, her father, Robert Rowland Hughes, was 32 years old, and her mother, Eunice Adelle Spears, was 31 years old.
