The team worked out Flacco on Friday. Due to a throwing shoulder injury that kept Deshaun Watson out of action for the entire season, Cleveland was hoping to acquire a third quarterback. Prior to signing Flacco, the Browns did not try out any other quarterbacks.

On Sunday, the Cleveland Browns upset the Pittsburgh Steelers 13–10, with rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson starting. Thompson-Robinson led the Browns on a game-winning field goal drive in the closing seconds while completing 24 of 43 passes for 165 yards and one interception.

Throughout his career, Flacco has passed for 42,320 yards and 232 touchdowns. While playing for the Baltimore Ravens, he was voted Super Bowl MVP and went on to win the 2013 Super Bowl.

The 38-year-old Flacco most recently began games for the New York Jets in the 2022 season, when he inspired the team to an unlikely comeback in the fourth quarter against Cleveland in Week 2. Flacco completed four touchdown passes in the game, the last one going to Garrett Wilson with 22 seconds left.

Cleveland (7-3) will travel to take on the Denver Broncos the following weekend.
