Pele Biography

Former Brazilian soccer forward Edson Arantes do Nascimento, known as Pele, was born on October 23, 1940. FIFA calls him “The Great,” one of the finest players ever. He was a 20th-century superstar athlete.

Pele was voted Athlete of the Century by the International Olympic Committee and one of Time magazine’s 100 most influential individuals in 1999.

Pele was one of two FIFA Players of the Century and World Footballer of the Century winners in 2000. Guinness World Records certifies his 1,279 goals in 1,363 games, including friendlies.

Pele played for Santos at age 15 and for Brazil at age 16. He was the only person to win three FIFA World Cups, in 1958, 1962, and 1970.Pele is Brazil’s top scorer with 77 goals in 92 games. Santos’ leading goal scorer, with 643 goals in 659 games.

During his golden period, Santos led the team to the Copa Libertadores in 1962 and 1963, as well as the Intercontinental Cup in 1962 and 1963.

Pele is revered in Brazil for his football skills and advocacy for impoverished people. As the first black sports star, his 1958 World Cup performance inspired. Pele has won several individual and team honors for his on-field achievements, record-setting, and legacy.

Pele started in the 1957 season and was the league’s top scorer at 16. The teenager joined the Brazilian national team 10 months after turning professional.

Real Madrid, Juventus, and Manchester United unsuccessfully pursued him after the 1958 and 1962 World Cups. Inter Milan gave him a permanent contract in 1958, but a Brazilian fan revolt forced Santos’ president to make Angelo Moratti break the deal.

To prevent him from leaving Brazil, President Janio Cuadoros declared Pele an “official national treasure” in 1961.

Santos’ 1958 Campeonato Paulista win was Pele’s first major championship. His 58 goals led the competition. Pele retired from Brazilian club football after the 1974 season, his 19th with Santos.

Two years later, he joined the 1975 NASL New York Cosmos. Pele retired in a Cosmos-Santos exhibition match on October 1, 1977. ABC’s Wide World of Sports broadcast the match internationally to a sold-out audience at Giants Stadium.

On July 7, 1957, Pele lost 2–1 against Argentina at the Maracana on his international debut. He played for Brazil at 16 years and 9 months. Brazil’s youngest goalscorer scored his first.

Pele, 73, declared his desire to marry Marcia Aoki, 41, a Japanese-Brazilian medical equipment importer from Pentapolis, So Paulo, with whom he had been in a relationship since 2010.They met in New York in the mid-1980s and reunited in 2008. They got married in July 2016.

Pele has two girls and a boy with his first wife, but he has had many relationships and may have many more children. His daughter Kelly Cristina, born on January 13, 1967, married Dr. Arthur DeLuca, Jennifer, and had a son, Edson “Edinho,” on August 27, 1970.

His second wife, Assyria Lemos Seishas, gave birth to twins Joshua and Celeste on September 28, 1996. After a DNA test, Pelé refused to acknowledge Sandra Machado as his daughter from a 1964 romance with a housemaid, Anizia Machado. Pelé never acknowledged his eldest daughter after her 2006 death, despite the fact that courts recognized her as his biological daughter in 1993 based on DNA evidence.

In 1968, Pelé had Flávia Kurtz with journalist Lenita Kurtz.

Pele Cause of Death

A hospital statement says that the 82-year-old was admitted on November 29 with a respiratory infection and for a “re-evaluation of chemotherapy treatment for colon cancer found in September 2021.”

This week, the hospital said that Pele’s health had gotten worse and that he would need more care because his cancer was getting worse.

Pele, who is 82 years old, was getting treatment for a colon tumor. Since last year, when he was first diagnosed with colon cancer, he has been getting regular chemotherapy.
