President John Dramani Mahama has appointed temporary ministers following the unfortunate deaths of two cabinet members in a military helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region on Wednesday.

In a statement published by Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the President authorised Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, Minister of Finance, to take on additional responsibilities as Minister of Defence immediately.

Similarly, Hon. Emmanuel Kofi Armah Buah, Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, has been nominated to serve as Minister of Environment, Science, and Technology till further notice.

The new responsibilities come in the aftermath of the untimely deaths of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, who were among eight individuals killed in a military helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District on Wednesday, August 6.

The event occurred as the officials were en route to Obuasi for a government job.

This step is intended to provide continuity and stability in critical areas of national administration as the country mourns the deaths of two distinguished public workers.

The Ghana Armed Forces and appropriate state institutions have initiated an official investigation into the cause of the crash, and flags are currently flying at half-mast across the country.

President Mahama is set to conduct a state memorial to the departed in the coming days, as preparations for their ceremonial funerals begin.
