Both Prosper Harrison Addo, the general secretary of the Ghana Football Association, and Sheikh Tophic Sienu, a non-executive council member, have been found guilty of contempt of court by a high court in Accra.
Both of them have been given a one-day prison sentence and a fine of 2,000 penalty units, which comes to GHS24,000 each.
In addition, the court found no one guilty and dismissed 12 other defendants, one of whom was GFA President Kurt Okraku.
Ashanti Gold FC is the party that initiated the contempt proceedings against the members of the GFA Executive Council for beginning the 2022-2023 Betpawa Premier League in contravention of an existing interlocutory order.
The miners were reciting prayers, asking for the members of the Executive Council to be imprisoned for what they characterized as a disdain for the dignity, respect, and authority of the court.
