The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has publicly announced the death of the Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, in the Manhyia Palace.

The declaration came during a necessary Asanteman Council meeting, which was attended by all paramountcies and tribes. The late Queen Mother’s one-week celebration will begin on Thursday, August 21, 2025.

The queen mother passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at the age of 98.

She was officially crowned Asantehemaa in 2017, following the death of her predecessor, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, in 2016. Her official unveiling occurred at the Manhyia Palace during her brother Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s 67th birthday ceremony.

That ceremony also marked the dedication of a restored ceremonial park named for the late Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II. Located across from the Manhyia Museum, the park includes a well-kept artificial turf and has held numerous royal and traditional ceremonies.

Nana Konadu Yiadom III was internationally respected for her leadership role in the Asante Kingdom and her unwavering dedication to conserving the country’s rich cultural history.

Throughout her reign, she was a pillar of support for the Asantehene and the larger traditional authority.
