BREAKING: Asamoah Gyan Officially Retires from Football at 37

Asamoah Gyan, a legend in Ghanaian football who served as captain of the national team for 20 years, has confirmed that he will hang up his cleats after a successful career in the professional game.

Gyan made his professional debut when he was still a teenager in the year 2003. He has now opted to hang up his boots in the year 2023, having racked up an astounding total of over 200 goals throughout his career.

The statement was made during his speech on Tuesday evening at the Accra International Conference Centre, which was hosting the 30th Annual Meetings of the Afreximbank.

He added, “I want to take this great opportunity, a stage that is difficult in every footballer’s career, a moment all footballers do not wish, but when nature dawns, that thin voice will keep echoing into the ears… I want to be the one to make that decision.” it is time… That voice has been quite audible to me, and I finally gave in to what it was telling me to do since the time had come. It is time to hand the jersey and boots in glory as I formally retire from active football.” “It is time to hand the jersey and boots in glory.”

The 37-year-old player has decided to hang up his boots after a fantastic career that saw him become Ghana’s all-time leading scorer with 51 goals in 109 matches played for the national team.

He represented Ghana in three different FIFA World Cup competitions, the most notable of which was their historic run all the way to the quarterfinals in the 2010 event that was held in South Africa. He finished with six goals, more than any other African player combined.

Gyan was also quite successful throughout his time playing for clubs. He played for a variety of clubs throughout the world, including Udinese in Italy, Rennes in France, Sunderland in the English Premier League, and Al-Ain in the United Arab Emirates.

At Al-Ain, he had a big success and eventually became the club’s all-time highest scorer with 128 goals. Other clubs he played for include: Sunderland in the English Premier League, Al-Ain in the United Arab Emirates, and Sunderland in the English Premier League.

After beginning his career at Liberty Professionals, Gyan finished his career in the Ghana Premier League playing for Legon Cities.
