Archbishop Charles Agyinasare, the founder of Perez Dome Chapel International, has encouraged President John Dramani Mahama not to take for granted Ghanaians’ tremendous trust in him following his election triumph.
In an exclusive interview with Roselyn Felli on Joy Prime, the Archbishop called the outcome of the previous election as “unprecedented,” adding that Ghanaians had virtually given over their lives to the President’s administration.
“What God did for him during this election was remarkable. Essentially, Ghanaians were saying him, “Mr President, we have given you our lives.” “If you have two-thirds of Parliament, you can do whatever you want,” he explained.
“So what Ghanaians were saying was, we don’t want you to have obstacles in what you want to do; we want you to be able to pass any law you want.”
However, Archbishop Agyinasare cautioned that such influence carries enormous responsibility and can be either a driver for constructive reform or a hazardous temptation.
“There are two ways it could go — either the power corrupts him, or it makes him reflect deeply and act responsibly,” he told me.
He stressed that the election was more than a political victory; it was a sacred trust.
“Mahama shouldn’t take what we did in this last election as Ghanaians for granted — because we gave our lives to him,” he tweeted.
