Ali Ahmed Aslam Biography
Chicken tikka masala is widely regarded as having been conceptualized and first prepared by Ali Ahmed Aslam, a Pakistani-born chef who worked in Scotland. He was born in 1944 or 1945 and passed away on December 19, 2022. His birth year was either 1944 or 1945.
Ali Ahmed Aslam Early and Personal Life
Aslam was born in what is now the province of Punjab in Pakistan, which was then known as the Punjab area. It was possibly in 1958 or 1959 that he moved to Glasgow with his family. He was a small youngster at the time. It is not obvious what year it is.
It was in 1959 that his father, Noor Mohammed, founded the Green Gates, which is largely considered to be Glasgow’s first true Indian restaurant. The Green Gates were situated on Bank Street at the time. Aslam was a devoted family guy; he was married and the father of five children.

Ali Ahmed Aslam opened the Shish Mahal restaurant in Glasgow’s west end in 1964.The urban legend has it that Aslam would frequently visit his business for lunch. He considered his business success to be the pinnacle of his efforts throughout his entire life.
Even though the origin of the dish is unknown, it is commonly believed that he was the one who invented chicken tikka masala. It is reported that he came up with the meal by winging it when it came to the sauce, which consisted of a can of condensed tomato soup and a variety of other spices.
Ali Ahmed Aslam said that he came up with the recipe for “Britain’s favorite curry” in response to a patron’s comment that his dish lacked moisture, and that this was how he came up with the name “Britain’s favorite curry.”
It is generally acknowledged that this dish is an example of chefs in Western Europe altering aspects of South Asian cuisine to fit the preferences of their consumers.
Ali Ahmed Aslam asserted that the dish was a gift to the city of Glasgow on his part, and he later tried to lobby the European Union to designate the dish as having a protected designation of origin, but he was ultimately unsuccessful in doing so. Aslam also claimed that the dish was a gift to the city of Glasgow from him.

The death of Aslam took place in Glasgow on December 19, 2022, when he was 77 years old. The funeral service for him took place the day after he passed away at the Glasgow Central Mosque, and others from the wider community were asked to attend.
