After hearing reports regarding the poor condition of the country’s football pitches, President Akufo-Addo is alleged to have made the decision to remove the Director General of the Sports Authority from his position.

Following the departure of Professor Peter Twumasi, who had held the position for a period of six years, Dr. Dodzie Numekevor was appointed to serve as the interim Director General of the National Sports Authority on February 26, 2024.

The African Cup of Nations (CAF) has decided to prohibit the Black Stars from utilizing the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, which was the sole facility in the country that was recognised for hosting international competitions.

The football governing body, which has warned the country on multiple occasions, was left with no choice but to impose a ban on the stadium since the nation was unable to satisfy the standards that were recommended by the CAF for its international games.

At a neutral venue in Morocco, Ivory Coast, or Nigeria, Ghana will most likely play its next home AFCON Qualifier 2025 match against Sudan in October.
