Akua Donkor, the founder and head of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), will be laid to rest on Saturday, March 29, in a last farewell to a woman whose impact on Ghanaian politics and impassioned advocacy for farmers and women will be long remembered.

The funeral ceremony will be held at her hometown of Ejuratia, with final rites running from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

Family, friends, political allies, and members of the public are expected to attend to commemorate her extraordinary life and legacy.

Akua Donkor, who died on Tuesday, October 28, 2024, in the Ridge Hospital in Accra, leaves a significant impact in Ghanaian politics.

She was a brave and vibrant voice in Ghana’s political landscape, well known for her efforts to support farmers’ and women’s rights.

Throughout her career, she was a strong advocate for the rights of marginalised groups, particularly rural agricultural communities, as well as ensuring that women’s opinions were heard at the highest levels of decision-making.

As the founder and leader of the Ghana Freedom Party, Akua Donkor carved out a distinct and daring niche for herself in a political landscape frequently dominated by larger, more established parties.

She became a figure of both admiration and controversy, known for her unflinching stance on topics that were most important to the average Ghanaian.

Throughout her life, she maintained a reputation for being loud, straightforward, and unabashedly faithful to her convictions, which made her both a formidable force and a revered figure among her fans.
