After nearly seven years of trial, a seven-member jury returned a guilty verdict on Wednesday, May 14, in the murder of the senior pastor of the Central Assemblies of God congregation in Tema in 2018.

On December 30, 2018, the convict, Francis Nabegmado, a relative of the dead, fatally knifed Rev. Dr David Nabegmado, stating that the senior pastor was a fraudulent preacher who practised idol worship and human sacrifice.

After an hour of summing up by the judge, Mary Maame Ekue Yanzuh, the jury adjourned briefly before returning with a unanimous guilty decision.

The judge sentenced the 38-year-old to life in prison based on the unanimous finding of the jury, who had previously read the testimony of the prosecution’s five witnesses and heard the summing up procedure.

The goods discovered in the convict’s bag when he was captured. Turpentine, Kasapreko Gin, and Matches.

When given the option to respond on the verdict, the defendant informed the judge he wanted to go home and meet his family.

“My Lady, I want to see my family, and I want to be taken to Yendi” .

When the court told him that she couldn’t give such an order for him to go see his family in Yendi, the inmate stated, “I insist.”

Francis, who will now spend the rest of his life in the Nsawam medium security prison, claimed throughout the trial that his choice to attack his uncle, Rev. Nebegmado, was motivated by insanity, but this did not prevent him from obtaining a life sentence.

Speaking quickly after the sentencing, Rev. Emmanuel Kwesi Ofori, Senior Pastor of the Assemblies of God church in Tema Community 4, stated that the church has been waiting for this conclusion for the past seven years and will soon issue an official statement.
