Ghana’s government has stated that its much-anticipated 24-hour economy program would formally commence on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.

Goosie Tanoh, the Presidential Advisor on Policy, made the statement when presenting the final policy document to the Speaker of Parliament on Thursday, June 26.

The 24-hour economy, one of the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) key campaign promises for the 2024 elections, aims to reduce unemployment and increase productivity by encouraging continuous, round-the-clock economic activity.

Tanoh underlined the government’s readiness to implement the strategy, adding that it is built on three major pillars: reforming production, improving supply chain and market systems, and strengthening human resources.

“These foundational anchors are supported by eight strategic sub-programmes,” the minister stated.

The following sub-programmes were highlighted:

The Grow24 initiative aims to modernise agriculture, Make24 focusses on industrial and manufacturing expansion, Connect24 optimises supply chains, and Aspire24 promotes a productivity-driven attitude.

A fundamental feature of the policy is the incorporation of digital skills training into the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) curriculum, which will prepare young Ghanaians for new work prospects.

Furthermore, the ‘Show Ghana’ project would highlight the country’s cultural endowments, boosting tourism and generating foreign currency.

Responding to the presentation, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin praised the initiative but asked the administration to seek legislative support to ensure the policy’s durability.

He recommended the 24-hour Economy Secretariat to work with MPs to create a statute that would institutionalise the program, assuring its continuity despite changes in political leadership.

The July 2 launch will be a watershed moment in Ghana’s economic change, which the government hails as bold and ambitious.
