Sammy Gyamfi, the NDC’s communications director, referred to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as an “unrepentant liar” for asserting that the Akufo-Addo administration has produced 2.1 million jobs since 2017.
In reaction to Dr. Bawumia’s claims, Mr. Gyamfi said on Facebook that unemployment had nearly quadrupled from 8.4% in 2016 to 14% as of 2021 and that he thought the Vice President’s remarks were humorous.
According to the GSS, the official unemployment rate has nearly doubled, from 8.4% in 2016 to 14% as of 2021. Youth unemployment has never been higher.
“Massive job losses have become the norm as a result of the Bawumia-led EMT’s poor economic management. However, our VEEP’s unrepentant liar says that his administration has added 2.1 million jobs. Such a joke! Bawumia’s name will have a cosy spot in the Guinness Book of Lies.
The Akufo-Addo administration, according to Dr. Bawumia on Saturday, has produced more sustainable jobs than any other administration in Ghana’s history.
After a health walk on Saturday morning, Dr. Bawumia spoke to party supporters at Mpraeso and claimed that the government has created 2.1 million jobs since 2017.
“There were no jobs during the NDC administration; they created unemployment; they were not creating jobs; we had the Graduate Unemployed Association; they were creating unemployment, but I have been looking at the data lately, and under the NPP, we have created 2.1 million jobs.”
According to reliable data, there are 1.2 million people working in the public sector and 975 000 in the private sector. NPP was causing unemployment, whereas we are providing jobs. There are still more jobs to be created, so we are not finished yet.
“However, no government since Independence has produced more jobs than Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s, and if anyone questions me, I will show them the numbers. However, we want to go further and enter the promised land. It is conceivable for us to resemble Dubai, South Korea, or Singapore.
