Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, has stated that 156 Ghanaians face deportation from the United States.
He says this is the official figure they are currently working with.
On Saturday, February 8, he announced on TV3’s KeyPoints: “156 facing imminent deportation from the US.”
He went on to say that the US government’s deportation action “raises the bigger issue of how we protect the welfare of Ghanaians.”
To that aim, he stated, “We are going to see new paradigms in terms of consular assistance.”
He also advised Ghanaians residing overseas “to get closer to the embassies, get registered, and then we can really take care of them.”
President Donald Trump has made mass deportation of unauthorized foreign people a priority policy.
The US is alleged to have identified over 18,000 Indian nationals that it suspects entered illegally.
