Donatus Akamugri Atanga, the Upper East Regional Minister, has ordered the immediate closure of Zuarungu Senior High School until further notice.

This judgement came after violent skirmishes between Frafra and Kusasi students on Sunday, July 20, over the suspected theft of a cell phone. The event turned into a full-fledged brawl, resulting in the destruction of certain buildings on campus and increased tensions throughout the school.

According to a Citi News source, police have arrested four students in connection with the event. However, one suspect apparently fled while being carried to the station, allegedly grabbing a police officer’s magazine in the process.

In reaction to anticipated reprisal assaults, security officers, including the military and police, have escorted Bawku students back to their hometown under strict surveillance.

Authorities said efforts are ongoing to restore calm as the investigation continues.
