William Ruto Dismisses Entire Cabinet Amid Nationwide Protests

In a dramatic move, Kenyan President William Ruto has dismissed his entire cabinet, except Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Diaspora Affairs.

‘s decision comes in the wake of nationwide protests over new tax hikes, which Ruto was forced to abandon. The protests have created the biggest crisis of his two-year presidency so far.

In a televised address, William Ruto stated that he would engage in extensive consultations across different sectors and political formations to set up a “broad base government” to help accelerate his agenda. This agenda includes dealing with debt, raising domestic resources, expanding jobs, eliminating waste, and ending corruption.

“Upon reflection, listening keenly to what the people of Kenya have said, and after a holistic appraisal of the performance of my Cabinet and its achievements and challenges, I have, in line with the powers given to me by Article 152(1) and 152(5)(b) of the Constitution and Section 12 of the Office of the Attorney-General Act, decided to dismiss with immediate effect all the Cabinet Secretaries and the Attorney-General from the Cabinet of the Republic of Kenya except the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs,” Ruto said in his address.

William Ruto directed principal secretaries to supervise the ministries during this process, as the operations of the government will continue uninterrupted.

The president’s decision to dismiss his entire cabinet, except two key figures, is a bold move aimed at addressing the country’s pressing issues and regaining the trust of the Kenyan people. It remains to be seen how this shakeup will impact the government’s ability to address the ongoing challenges facing the nation.

Over the past two years, William Ruto’s government has made significant progress in various areas, including increasing food production, stabilizing the economy, implementing changes in the education sector, and rolling out social welfare programs.

However, the recent events surrounding the Finance Bill and the resulting protests have created a need for a more comprehensive approach to governance.

“Recent events that necessitated the withdrawal of the Finance Bill, which will require a review and reorganization of our budget and fiscal management, have brought us to an inflection point,” Ruto said.

The president’s decision to dismiss the cabinet is a bold move that signals his willingness to take decisive action to address the country’s challenges. By engaging in extensive consultations and setting up a “broad base government,” Ruto aims to create a more inclusive and effective administration that can deliver on his agenda.

It remains to be seen who William Ruto will appoint to the new cabinet and how the government will navigate the upcoming changes.

As Kenyans await the announcement of the new cabinet, the nation will be closely watching to see how Ruto’s government responds to the ongoing challenges and whether the president’s bold move will lead to the desired transformation
