Why was Wisconsin volleyball trending? Leaked Video Women’s Volleyball Team

Police from the University of Wisconsin are looking into how private images and videos of members of the school’s women’s volleyball team ended up being shared online without the players’ permission.

The University of Wisconsin’s athletic department put out a statement on Wednesday saying that athletes called campus police when they found out that the images were made public.

The statement does not say when the photographs or videos were taken or where they were shot. According to a report from the Wisconsin State Journal, photographs were shot from within the locker room of the squad. According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, one of the photos seems to have been taken after Wisconsin had already won the Big Ten championship the previous year.

According to the statement, law enforcement is “investigating several offenses, including publishing sensitive pictures without authorization.” According to a statement released by the state of Wisconsin, “the unauthorized sharing is a serious and unlawful breach of the student-athletes’ privacy,” which may also constitute potential violations of university policy and criminal legislation.

Thursday marked the confirmation of the inquiry by University of Wisconsin Police Department spokesperson Marc Lovicott. Lovicott stated that she would not provide any further details because the inquiry is still ongoing. The volleyball players are not the subject of any kind of investigation into possible misbehavior.

According to the statement made by the athletic department of the University of Wisconsin, “Our main focus is supporting our student-athletes, and we are providing them with the right services and resources.”

Wisconsin won its first national championship in 2016 after defeating Nebraska in the championship game. Before their match at home on Friday against Michigan State, the fifth-ranked Wisconsin Badgers (13-3 overall, 7-1 in the Big Ten) received votes in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll.
