In 1969, he received his diploma from Tenafly High School, where he was a member of the school’s football team and served as the squad’s captain during his senior year.
Harris was a standout athlete in high school and went on to play varsity football at Columbia University, where he played alongside Eric Holder, who would later become the Attorney General of the United States.
Carman Hall was his home throughout his time at Columbia, and he claims that after two years there, he finally gave in to what he called the “Morningside Heights blues.”
Two years later, when Harris’ family relocated to New Mexico, he accompanied them there, having recently discovered his love of playing in a variety of plays performed in theaters.
