Edward Allen Harris is a well-known American actor and director. He was born on November 28, 1950, in the United States. Critical praise as well as nominations for an Academy Award were bestowed upon him for his work in the films Apollo 13 (1995), The Truman Show (1998), Pollock (2000), and The Hours (2002).

The Right Stuff (1983), The Abyss (1989), State of Grace (1990), Glengarry Glen Ross (1992), The Firm (1993), Nixon (1995), The Rock (1996), Stepmom (1998), A Beautiful Mind (2001), Enemy at the Gates (2001), A History of Violence (2005), Gone Baby Gone (2007), Snowpiercer (2013), Mother! (2017), The Lost Daughter (2021), and Top Gun: Maverick are just some of the movies in which Harris (2022) appears. Harris is best known for directing the Western film Appaloosa, as well as Pollock, which he also directed in 2008.

In the world of television, Harris is best known for his performances as Miles Roby in the miniseries Empire Falls (2005) and as United States Senator John McCain in the television movie Game Change (2012). For his work in the latter role, he was awarded the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Miniseries, or Television Film.

In the science fiction Western series Westworld (2016–2022) on HBO, he plays the role of the Man in Black. For this role, he has been nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.

In 1969, he received his diploma from Tenafly High School, where he was a member of the school’s football team and served as the squad’s captain during his senior year.

Harris was a standout athlete in high school and went on to play varsity football at Columbia University, where he played alongside Eric Holder, who would later become the Attorney General of the United States.

Carman Hall was his home throughout his time at Columbia, and he claims that after two years there, he finally gave in to what he called the “Morningside Heights blues.”

Two years later, when Harris’ family relocated to New Mexico, he accompanied them there, having recently discovered his love of playing in a variety of plays performed in theaters.

Did Ed Harris Attend film school?

He intends to major in theater at the University of Oklahoma, where he has already enrolled. After playing a number of successful parts in local theaters (including the Jewel Box Theater in Oklahoma City), he relocated to Los Angeles and enrolled in the California Institute of the Arts.

Ed Harris attended this school for a total of two years and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1975.
